Whilst those with short-term [Tourist or Special Tourist] visas have been able to easily extend them during the COVID-19 lockdown and border closures, some people have been inquiring as to whether it’s possible to convert this visa into a long-stay option such as; Retirement, Dependent, Guardian, Marriage and/or a Business Visa without leaving the Kingdom.

Although such conversions or change-overs aren’t normally acquired via local [within Thailand] channels, Immigration Samui has been approving conversion of a Tourist Visa, on a case-by-case basis, into any of the aforementioned long-term visa options, providing of course that you meet the usual criteria for the [long-stay] visa. It’s important to note that this visa ‘conversion’ is available to a standard Tourist Visa holder but, not available to those holding the Special Tourist Visa!
