CURRENCY EXCHANGE & ESCROW

Samui Law Firm offers very competitive foreign exchange rates, via a dedicated client ‘escrow’ account, on most currencies around the world, when you’re transferring funds from a foreign country for business creation, retirement, marriage, professional services, semi-permanent relocation and/or a property purchase in Thailand.

Providing you’ve engaged us for any of the aforementioned services, we can provide excellent exchange rates compared to a normal bank transfer.

The process is seamless and informative through our Client Management System [CMS]. Our CMS tracks your exchange rates, as well as all credits and debits, providing real-time tracking on each and every transaction and on demand statements.

By transacting through our dedicated client/escrow account, you will qualify for a FT [Foreign Transfer] Form from the Bank of Thailand, meaning you should have little/no trouble repatriating your funds to the country and account of origin when/if you on-sell your investment.

Note: to qualify for an FT Form, the foreign currency transfer [to our client/escrow account] must be:

    • in excess of 50,000 USD [or equivalent in another foreign currency] and,
    • funds must arrive in our client/escrow account in foreign currency NOT converted into Thai baht.

In the interests of full disclosure, Samui Law Firm does charge a handling fee for each/every foreign currency or Thai baht credit and/or debit that is transacted through our dedicated Client/Escrow Account. This allows us to maintain the account with dedicated staff, daily reconciliation and immediate balances and statements to our clients. The fees we charge are as follows:

    • 3,000 THB for each/every foreign currency conversion and
    • 750 THB for each/every Thai baht credit and/or debit

However, as you may see from the examples [David & Maggie] provided below, our fees can/should be easily offset by the excellent exchange rates we negotiate on your foreign currency conversion.

As a result, David received an additional 158,100 THB transacting through our client/escrow account and, the additional funds were sufficient to cover his legal fees for the property transaction!

David transferred 675,000 USD into our client/escrow account for a property transaction in Koh Samui, and the exchange rate difference between David’s Australian bank to our client/escrow account was:

Maggie’s American Bank offered:

32.83 THB [per USD]

Our Client/Escrow Bank offered and confirmed:

As a Result, Maggie received an additional 391,500 THB transacting through our client/escrow account and, the additional funds were sufficient to cover her legal fees, visas, permits and licenses for the company acquisition!
